Sever Iustian

Sever Iustian is a Romanian painter, living in Paris since 1980, member of Grand Palais, the famous French Artists' Society. His father was from Transylvania, the north-western part of Romania, his mother was from Greece and he was born in 1948 in the south-eastern part of the country, Constanta.

I have graduated in Cluj (Transilvania) cause my father did not want to conceive one can have an education in any other part of the country. I was lucky to have a Greek mother, she gave me the talent, logic, humor and a taste for finer things in life. I was a teacher in Romania for 10 years. I had 4-5 personal exhibitions and I am a member of the Romanian Fine Art Society, in Constanta. In France, I had 7 personal exhibitions, I was present 5 times in the Independent Artists Fair and I have received 3 international awards.

His paintings are featured in the Art Museum of Constanta as well as part of many private collections.

His style is optimistic, soothing while showing a solid composition (like Greek architecture, he likes to say). His paintings are contemplative and mysterious because the human is there without being represented. He likes discreet, luminous colors, so barely different than white it leaves you with a feeling of imponderable, diffuse warmth.

The heavy brush strokes, delicate hues dominated by a solar yellow always present in his paintings create a distinctive style, difficult to miss. He is using oil on canvas of large sizes having landscapes as favorite subject, be they from Romania or more exotic (Constanța, Greece, Morocco, Spain) but always warm, always serene and definitely close to the sea shore.

Stabilit in Paris in 1980, membru al Grand Palais, societatea artistilor francezi, Iustian este roman nascut in Constanta in 1948 din tata ardelean si mama grecoaica.

“Am facut facultatea la Cluj caci taica-miu, nu concepea ca se poate invata carte in alta parte. Norocul meu ca mama era grecoaica 100% si mi-a transmis talent, umor, logica si chef de viata buna. Am fost 10 ani profesor in tara, am avut 4-5 expozitii personale in Bucuresti, sunt membru al Uniunii Artistilor Plastici filiala Constanta. in Franta am avut 7 expozitii personale, 5 participari la Salonul Independentilor si am primit 3 premii internationale.”

Tablourile sale sunt prezente in multe colectii particulare si in muzeul de arta din Constanta.

Are un stil optimist, linistitor dar cu o compozitie solida (ca o arhitectura greceasca, ii place sa spuna). Tablourile lui sunt contemplative si misterioase din cauza ca omul nu este reprezentat dar este prezent. Picteaza in culori discrete, luminoase, uneori abia diferite de alb incat lasa o senzatie de impoderabilitate, de caldura difuza.

Tusele groase si distincte, nuantele delicate, dominate de un galben solar, prezente in toate picturile sale conduc la un stil aparte, foarte greu de confundat. Foloseste ulei pe panza, in general dimensiuni mari, avand ca subiecte predilecte peisaje mai autohtone sau mai exotice (Constanta, Grecia, Maroc, Spania) dar mereu insorite si calduroase, cat mai aproape de malul marii, nisip si liniste.
